The Fund may invest in residual interest bonds, also referred to as inverse floating rate securities, whereby it may sell a variable or fixed rate bond for cash to a special-purpose vehicle (SPV), while at the same time buying a residual interest in the assets and cash flows of the SPV. The Fund may purchase derivative instruments, which derive their value from another instrument, security, or index, including financial futures contracts and related options, interest rate swaps, and forward rate contracts. The Fund may also invest in the residual interests of a trust that holds municipal securities. The investment adviser of the Fund is Eaton Vance Management (EVM or Eaton Vance).
